sew and sew

Well ! I think I am over knitting - just for a few hours anyway - doesn't it drive you nuts when you realise that that perfect colour you bought in the shop doesn't look so great at home and you are more than half way through the project- I know I will rework it -

Anyway there is nothing like sewing something or even just thinking about it - gloating over beautiful fabrics at tessuti then stunning vogue patterns

I got the patterns I ordered last week ( they were only $4.95 at the time so i couldn't resist ordering a bunch) - my interest started after looking at tessuti.blogspot.com - it shows some of the patterns made up and they talk about changes they make to the pattern - this is so important as I always find I slightly change patterns

I love looking at the vintage patterns too and think about using the vintage fabric ohhh cant wait for summer - or at least warmer weather -

Back to the scarf - here it is so far -I guess I could always turn it in to a hat!!!

Fab Fab Fabric!

A few weeks ago via +handmadelove+ I signed up receive some delightful fabric scraps from Fairgrond Studios. They were just wonderful and I'm simply busting to get creating!

So far I've made a cute covered button for the top of a crocheted cake and a covered hair clip. Just need to find more time for all the other things I have planned.

Saturday Craftanoons

What a truly lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon - Crafting!

Mum and I have made the most of our time together while she's in Adelaide. We've sipped tea chatted lots, listened to our favourite tunes, (currently listening to Big Jumps by Emiliana Torrini), Mum's felting beads for a necklace and I'm working on a softy present for a friend's birthday.

Our creative space today is the kitchen table, complete with my favourite wedgewood teacups and vinnies silver teapot. In the picture the teapot is hidden by the most darling teacosy I picked up at the Port Adelaide markets the other day - what a score!

For lunch I made Cream of Chicken Soup (serves 4)
2 cups chicken stock
1 large brown onion, chopped
2 celery sticks, chopped
1 medium leek, trimmed, washed & chopped
3 chicken maryland, skin removed
50g butter
1/3 cup plain flour
1/2 cup cream
2 tsp chopped chives
2 tsp chopped thyme
2 tsp chopped parsley

1. Place 3 1/2 cups of cold water, stock, onion, celery, leek and chicken in a large saucepan over a medium heat. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to med/low. Simmer covered for an hour. Transfer chicken to a bowl, cool slightly. Removed bones, shred meat and set aside. Strain stock mixture in to a large heat proof jug, discard solids
2. Melt butter in pan over medium high heat. Add flour, cook stirring for 1 min or until bubbling. Gradually stir in stock mixture and cream. Cover and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium, add chicken. Cook stirring occasionally for 15 min or until soup thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in chopped herbs. Serve.

I added chopped mushrooms with the chicken... Yum!
